Why segment your ambassador community?
Not all your ambassadors are the same. Some are highly active, others respond occasionally, they may be in different locations or have purchased different products. To maximise the impact of your actions, you need to send the right message to the right person at the right time. That's exactly what tag-based segmentation in Magma allows you to do.
🎯 Segmentation is one of the most powerful levers for improving community engagement. Institutions that segment their ambassadors see significantly higher participation rates on their challenges.
How do tags work?
Tags are labels you assign to your ambassadors to categorise them. You can create as many tags as needed and combine them to create fine-grained segments.
Common tag examples:
- By programme: "Bachelor", "Master", "MBA", "Work-study"
- By company size: "SME", "Mid-market", "Enterprise"
- By status: "Current customer", "Alumni", "Partner"
- By engagement level: "Active ambassador", "New", "VIP"
- By location: "London", "New York", "International"
Creating and managing your tags
From your Magma dashboard, go to the community section to manage your tags:
- Create a tag: define a clear and descriptive name
- Assign a tag: select one or more ambassadors and apply the tag in one click
- Filter by tag: use filters to display only the ambassadors in a given segment
- Combine tags: cross multiple tags for very precise segments (e.g. "Customer" + "London" + "Gold ambassador")
Sending targeted challenges to a segment
One of the most powerful uses of tags is the ability to send challenges only to a specific segment. For example:
- A "September Referral" challenge sent only to new customers with an NPS > 8
- A video testimonial request reserved for your most engaged ambassadors
- An event challenge targeting participants registered for a specific event
✨ Tip: start by creating 3 to 5 essential tags that match your main segments. You can always refine later. Too many tags from the start can complicate management.
Customising rewards by segment
Tags also allow you to offer different rewards based on segments. An alumni ambassador won't have the same motivations as a current customer. Adapt your rewards catalogue to maximise the engagement of each group.
